Maine Elks Association Veterans/National Service Director David Hassen has reported that the VA Center for Development & Civic Engagement (Formerly Voluntary Services) office at Togus VA has opened up new volunteer opportunities:

A couple of things in the works:

New Recreation Therapy Assignment in 4 South:

This is our medical unit, and we are looking for Volunteers to assist our Rec Therapy staff and the residents on this unit! This will take place in Building 200 and we will need Volunteers Monday-Friday from 1-3! The activities will vary from cooking things, going for walks, playing cards or board games, etc.!

Updated CLC Volunteer Assignments:

  1. Visits to the retail store during minimal traffic times
  2. Walks in the hall within the VA during minimal traffic times
  3. Tram rides on campus (requires driver physical)
  4. Rides in the community (requires driver physical)

Visits outside/playing games/doing puzzles/reading etc. please call x7332 to schedule, new volunteers must participate in orientation prior to volunteering

Indoor visits must be scheduled with CLC staff following the visitation scheduled, if you would like to volunteer with our CLC, please contact x7332

        1.  Scheduled visitation is available on the CLC neighborhoods in designated rooms.
        2. Visitations will occur during scheduled times with Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) staff or designee escorting the visitor to and from the designated visitation rooms.
        3. The designated visitation rooms are:
          1. Togus Springs: (non-compassionate care visitations) Individual private Veteran rooms.
          2. Veterans Village: Room 207A (Large glass room off the day room)
          3. Patriots Place: Room 312 (Comfort Room)
        4. Scheduled visitation is available on the CLC neighborhoods in designated rooms.
        5. Visitations will occur during scheduled times with Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) staff or designee escorting the visitor to and from the designated visitation rooms.

Visit Schedule:

  1. Visitation will be scheduled, as staffing permits, Monday through Friday by the CLC PSA or CLC team member and will include thirty (30) minutes between each visitation to allow for sanitation.
        1. Togus Springs: 11:00 am -4:00 pm.
        2. Veterans Village: 9:00 am – 11:00 am and 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
        3. Patriots Place: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
  1. Visitation on Saturday and Sunday will be held in the Garden Gazebo or the CLC first floor visitation room.
        • Saturday: 10:00 am and 12:00 pm.
        • Sunday: 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 2:00 pm.

We are REALLY hoping we can make this successful for our residents on the CLC and on 4 South—if you are interested in returning as a Rec Therapy Volunteer, or are new and would like to volunteer, please contact the Center for Development and Civic Engagement at 207-621-4886!
