State Ritual Contest

The Maine Elks Association State Lodge Ritual Contest will take place at the Sanford Elks Lodge #1470 on February 22, 2026.

The contest is open to any Maine Elk Lodge  and its officers to compete using the initiatory ritual. The officers must perform their parts from memory, and will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Impressiveness (50% of Score)
  • Deportment or Movements (10% of Score)
  • Pronunciation (7% of Score)
  • Word Accuracy (30% of Score)
  • Team Appearance (3% of Score)

The winning team will receive funds from the State Association to assist with traveling to the National Lodge Ritual Contest to be held at the Grand Lodge Convention in Atlanta, Georgia in July 2022.

11 O’Clock Toast & Flag Presentation Contests

The Maine Elks Association 11 O’Clock Toast and Flag Presentation Contests will take place at the Farmington Elk Lodge #2430 on March 8th, 2026.

Both contests are open to any current member of a Maine Elk Lodge, you do not have to be a PER! The contestants will recite the 11 O’Clock Toast and Flag Presentation ceremony from the initiatory ritual from memory.

The 11 O’Clock Toast Contest will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Impressiveness
  • Word Accuracy
  • Pronunciation

The Flag Presentation Contest contestants will perform, from memory, the final charge and flag presentation during the initiatory ritual. The contestants will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Impressiveness
  • Word Accuracy
  • Pronunciation
  • Deportment (movement)

The ritual competitions are intended to encourage improvement of the performance of the Elk rituals in a fun way.
